Empowerment. Engagement. Authenticity.

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy revolves around motivation and the inclusive classroom. I believe that learning is enhanced when students feel included and when they are motivated. Consequently, I cultivate my classroom climate based on the Four Conditions Necessary for Culturally Responsive Teaching (Wlodkowski and Ginsberg, 1995) and the ARCS Model of Motivation (John Keller, 1987).

I use a variety of delivery methods and activities to ensure that my instruction is learner-centered and engaging to students with all learning styles. The course material I use is relevant to students’ interests and needs so that learning is not a chore. I educate my students on how to provide useful feedback to their peers and I pride myself on being available to my students.
